The Kent State University Open-Access Publishing Fund will support reasonable article processing charges (APC) for open-access journals when funds are not otherwise available.  APCs are supported by University Libraries while funds remain available on a first come first served basis.  To apply for support please refer to the Guidelines and complete the Application Form.
University Libraries endorses the OA business model as an alternative to the ever rising costs of traditional scholarly publishing and journal subscription costs.  Kent State University Libraries also provides support for the open access publishing model in the following ways:
  • the management and funding for the Digital Commons, an institutional repository for Kent State University authors and KSU affiliate authors
  • support for Reveal Digital which uses a library crowd-funding model to fund the development of digital collections such as Reveal Digital's project: Independent Voices
  • as a member of OhioLINK KSUL supports SCOAP3 (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics) which has converted key journals in the field of high-energy physics to open access at no cost for authors.
  • indexing and access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals found in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
  • support for Knowledge Unlatched, a model that depends on many libraries from around the world sharing the payment of a single Title Fee to a publisher, in return for a book being made available on a Creative Commons license.
